Visit your children or grandchildren in Canada

The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa

The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa is a multiple entry visa that is valid for 10 years and allows applicants to remain in Canada for up to two years at a time without the need for renewal of their status.

In most cases the Super Visa can be processed in as little as eight weeks.

The Super Visa allows people from other countries the freedom to come and go between their home country and Canada and share family life without the hassle and expense of having to reapply for a Temporary Resident Visa every six months.

Dependants of grandparents and parents are not eligible under this provision; only grandparents or parents and their spouse or common law partners may apply.

The Government of Canada is committed to family reunification and the Super Visa provides families with the flexibility to spend longer periods of time with loved ones in Canada.

What if I am Temporary Resident Visa exempt?

The Super Visa is particularly suited to parents and grandparents who require a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada. They benefit from the certainty of being able to stay in Canada for a period of up to two years and do not have to incur the expense and hassle to reapply every six months.

For citizens of visa-exempt countries who can be given permission to visit Canada for up to six months, the benefits of the Super Visa depend on whether you intend to stay longer than six months.

If you intend to stay for longer than 6 months then there are definite benefits from the Super Visa. The Super Visa can;

  • save you time and money on application fees
  • save you the inconvenience of having to renew after six months
  • save you to travel to and from the port of entry, and
  • easy port of entry examinations
