Recruitment Exemptions

Canadian employers that are hiring foreign workers may have exemptions to the advertising and recruitment requirements in the following situations:

Digital Media
  • specific positions in the video gaming and digital effects industries

For these occupations, the recruitment and advertising exemption only pertains to the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario.

Entertainment Sector
  • specific positions when someone is hired on short notice and for a limited number of days
Owners and Operators
  • an owner/operator who plays an important part towards the daily operation and remains actively involved in the business services

Specialized Service Technicians and Providers

  • when a specialist has specific knowledge and experience related to work of which nobody in Canada can be available, or
  • a service is required for equipment that must have parts manufactured or reconfigured by a technician
Warranty Services
  • for installation, inspection or repair of equipment of which skilled workers are required
