Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Express Entry Immigration

Canadian Experience Class provides a popular route for people who have gained at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada.

What is the Canadian Experience Class Program?

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a Federal immigration program for skilled workers with Canadian work experience who want to become permanent residents in Canada through Express Entry.

The Canadian Experience Class program grades your eligibility on a pass or fail mark based on your ability to demonstrate 12 months of full-time (or part-time equivalent) skilled Canadian work experience on a valid work permit in the three years before the submission of your application and your ability to assimilate to Canadian Culture i.e. the mandatory language test and Canadian work experience.

What are the Requirements for the Canadian Experience Class Program?

To be eligible for the CEC program, you must meet the following minimum requirements;

  1. Canadian Skilled Work Experience: You must have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in the 3 years before you apply. Your work experience must be in one or more of these NOC training, education, experience, and responsibilities (TEER) categories: TEER 0, TEER 1, TEER 2, or TEER 3. Your skilled work experience must be paid work, including paid wages or earned commission. Volunteer work or unpaid internships and work when you were a full time student are not counted as skilled work experience
  2. Language Ability: You must take approved language tests for writing, reading, listening, and speaking and meet the minimum score required. Your language tests are valid for 2 years after the date of the test result and must be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence. The minimum language proficiency required is a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of five – initial intermediate or seven – adequate intermediate proficiency depending on your TEER code.
  3. Education: There are no formal educational requirements for this program. However, having a Canadian post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree or a completed foreign credential with an educational credential assessment (ECA) report can increase your score.
  4. Admissibility: You must be admissible to Canada under Canada’s immigration law and not pose any security or health risks.
